What the Program Offers

Technicians who train and become Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) certified Home Energy Raters and affiliated with a RESNET Accredited Provider can improve and grow their services in a number of ways. As a Rater you can:

  • Expand your business by testing and rating houses to the ENERGY STAR® Certified Homes standard.
  • Add a complementary service to your contracting or construction business.
  • Improve your level of expertise.
  • Help your customers improve their energy awareness and their homes' energy performance.

To become a Home Energy Rater, eligible to serve builders of ENERGY STAR Certified Homes, you must first complete the necessary training through a training provider accredited by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET). NYSERDA partners with several RESNET accredited Home Energy Training Providers to prepare students for the RESNET National Rater Certification.

Training topics cover the purpose and benefits of home energy ratings and how to communicate those points to your potential customers. You will also learn how to produce home energy ratings from building plans and field inspections, and how to understand procedures necessary for completing a rating, concluding the loan process and producing a final report.
