How the Program Works

For businesses looking to take advantage of this cutting-edge technology, NYSERDA is offering a 50 percent cost-share incentive for eligible RTEM project expenses. These include hardware (except those included in the National Grid program), installation, and five years of ongoing support from energy experts. That means that 50 percent of all eligible costs are guaranteed to be covered up front, so you won’t pay full price or need to wait for rebates.

  • I don’t have a BAS – can I participate?
    • Yes! This solution is designed for customers without dedicated central systems, using packaged or split units for heating and cooling needs.
  • Can I still receive the 50% cost share without participating in National Grid’s Thermostat Program?
    • No, eligible applicants must have purchased qualified Wifi thermostats through an authorized National Grid reseller and demonstrate proof of compliance.
  • How do I find a participating RTEM vendor?
    • The RTEM vendors eligible to participate have been qualified by NYSERDA. Only NYSERDA-qualified RTEM vendors are able to take advantage of NYSERDA’s cost-share incentives for RTEM projects. See Find a Vendor.

Eligibility Requirements

Eligible applicants must have purchased equipment through an qualified National Grid distribution channel for the Wifi Thermostat Program and demonstrate eligibility as a Small Business customer.

Businesses must also pay into the System Benefits Charge (SBC). With a copy of your electric bill, a qualified vendor can confirm if your service meets these eligibility requirements.
