Clean Heating and Cooling Communities Campaign

NYSERDA supports community-based organizations across the State to help homeowners and small businesses learn about clean heating and cooling systems.

Switching to a clean, efficient heat pump system can bring immediate benefits to your home or business. Designed to work efficiently in cold climates while also doubling as a cooling system in the warmer months, heat pumps are a more efficient, affordable option to keep you comfortable all year long. There are no fossil fuels, fuel storage, or carbon monoxide emissions, which reduces your carbon footprint, increases indoor air quality, and helps improve your community’s environment. Heat pumps have the lowest carbon emissions of any heating source and require minimal maintenance.

Replacing your heating and cooling equipment can often be overwhelming. Participating in a clean heating and cooling communities campaign eases the process.

How participating in a campaign will benefit you

Community campaigns help homes and small businesses install energy-efficient clean heating and cooling technologies that don’t require oil, propane, or natural gas. These nonprofit, community-based organizations are supported by local governments and comprised of friends, neighbors, environmental advocates, and technical experts.

By participating in a campaign, you’ll receive no-cost support from experienced, qualified professionals who can answer questions, explain the benefits of these technologies, and help you determine which heat pump system would be the best option for your home or business. They work with you to understand your environmental and project goals, help you navigate Federal, State, and Utility incentive and financing programs, and pair you with a prequalified, certified contractor. In addition, your community resource is available to answer any questions you have about your contractor’s recommendations and quotes.

Our team of contractors can also offer you a holistic view of your home to determine if you’d benefit from weatherproofing upgrades that can improve your family’s comfort and reduce your carbon footprint even further. Improving your home’s performance with insulation and air sealing lowers your heating needs and, in turn, your upfront equipment costs.
