Offshore Wind in New York State

offshore wind turbines

In January 2017, Governor Andrew M. Cuomo committed New York State to pursuing the development of 2,400 megawatts (MW) of offshore wind energy by 2030— enough to power up to 1.2 million homes. The development of this resource supports the State's energy goals and will provide clean, abundant energy to New York City and Long Island. In addition, it will further the State’s goal of growing the number of home-grown, renewable, carbon-free sources of energy to the grid, while creating statewide jobs and encouraging investments in coastal communities and infrastructure. Furthermore, New York State is committed to ensuring that energy from offshore wind is developed in a responsible and cost-effective manner.
