Ground Source Heat Pump Designers, Installers, or Drillers

To qualify as a participating contractor, an individual must have credentials recognized by NYSERDA. Only the designer or installer may apply to the Ground Source Heat Pump Rebate on behalf of a site owner, but all contractors must meet program qualification requirements.

Acceptable Credentials

Contractors must have one of the following credentials to be approved to receive the Ground Source Heat Pump rebate:


  • Certified GeoExchange Designer from the Association of Energy Engineers/International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA), or
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Registered Architect (RA) with demonstrated experience on three installations of 75 tons or greater


  • Installer certificate from IGSHPA


  • New York State Department of Environmental Conservation registration
  • National Ground Water Association vertical closed loop driller certification
  • IGSHPA loop installer accreditation or
  • Loop installer with references

Have proof of your credentials readily available and include them in your application to become an approved contractor.
