Policy Development Internship - Albany Office

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, known as NYSERDA, promotes energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources. These efforts are key to developing a less polluting and more reliable and affordable energy system for all New Yorkers. Collectively, NYSERDA’s efforts aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, accelerate economic growth, and reduce customer energy bills.

This is a paid internship for current, matriculated students. Selected candidate must be available to work onsite during the school year.  Students will work up to 18.5 hours per week during the semester, and up to 37.5 hours per week in between semesters, when not attending class.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development of reports related to the use of Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) 
    • Collect, compile and synthesize data and content; and 
    • Support multiple RGGI work streams including: RGGI Operating Plan, RGGI Regional Proceeds Report, and quarterly auctions.
  • Assist with the annual ACEEE scorecard submission for New York State
    • Collect and compile content in response to the annual ACEEE scorecard, and
    • Verify data and compare year-over-year changes in the draft ACEEE scorecard card report.
  • Research and develop more empirical information about New York’s clean energy economy (e.g., jobs, patents, private investment, information to characterize industry clusters, etc.)
  • Perform secondary research to inform and develop NYSERDA’s Strategic Plan
  • Collect and compile data for the State Heating Oil and Propane Price Program

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor or graduate-level candidate, studying engineering, economics, science, business, public administration, or a related field of analytical study.
  • Policy analysis, research, technical writing, and spreadsheet knowledge
  • Excellent skills with the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to research primary and secondary sources.
  • Skill in managing multiple activities, delivering on commitments, and operating with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment.
  • Strong work ethic.
