Project Manager, Communities and Local Governments - Buffalo or Albany Office (#477)

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) seeks a creative, self-motivated and experienced individual to serve as a Project Manager on the Communities and Local Government team.  The Project Manager will lead the implementation of the Community Energy Engagement Program (CEEP) as well as support several other initiatives. CEEP is a $5.8 million initiative to partner with local organizations to help build awareness around diverse funding opportunities available for energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.  These organizations deploy trusted, local Community Energy Advisers who engage with residents, small businesses and multifamily building owners on how to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions.  Community Energy Advisers will work with New Yorkers of all income levels, but will focus especially on low-to-moderate income households and communities.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Implement and manage CEEP as well as design the Regional Specific Initiatives solicitation
  • Manage the CEEP metrics reporting and program impact/evaluation initiatives
  • Develop and implement strategies to regularly measure and communicate program results and use that information to continually improve program design
  • Support the development of case studies and web-based materials
  • Work effectively with multiple NYSERDA teams, local governments and other state agencies to define opportunities and deploy solutions to tackle market barriers that are prohibiting greater uptake of energy efficiency and renewable energy projects for residents, small businesses, and multifamily building owners
  • Develop and negotiate the programmatic structure, technical aspects and budgets of NYSERDA funded projects
  • Oversee the work of consultants, engineers and other technical contractors including writing statements of work, issuing contracts, budgeting, and invoicing
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2 years of relevant experience and a bachelor’s degree; graduate degree preferred
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, resourcefulness, adaptability, and an instinct for pragmatic solutions with a proactive and collaborative style that works well in teams
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to set priorities, collect and document project requirements, successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong written, verbal and analytical skills, with the ability to effectively evaluate information and data to make decisions  
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills that resonate with audiences of different backgrounds


Candidates will be considered for Assistant Project Manager through Senior Project Manager based on qualifications and experience.  An excellent benefits package is also offered.
