Round Five Winning Demonstration Projects
On June 17, 2025, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that nine projects were awarded nearly $7 million in funding through the fifth round of the $83 million Buildings of Excellence (BOE) Competition. These demonstration projects showcase innovative and replicable approaches to the new construction of carbon-neutral multifamily buildings.

Round Four Winning Demonstration Projects
On April 2, 2024, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that nine projects were awarded $8 million in funding through the fourth round of the $58 million Buildings of Excellence (BOE) Competition. These demonstration projects showcase innovative and replicable approaches to the new construction of carbon-neutral multifamily buildings.

The Buildings of Excellence Competition intends to award funding in the early stages of project development to ensure the best opportunity for energy efficiency and other beneficial attributes can be integrated into the building design.
Occasionally an awarded project with impressive low-carbon design is unable to complete the building as planned for a variety of reasons. When this occurs, a project becomes ineligible for continued support through the Buildings of Excellence Competition.
