Urban Electric Power, LLC - New York, NY

April 30, 2013

Urban Electric Power (UEP) has raised over $2 million toward commercializing through an exclusive license agreement for its breakthrough zinc anode battery technology for stationary energy storage applications developed at the City University of New York. UEP’s batteries, which have been supported with ARPA-E and NYSERDA funding, are designed to compete in cost and reliability for grid-scale applications such as energy shifting and renewables integration, and in established markets such uninterruptible power supply. Made from the same environmentally sustainable materials as disposable alkaline batteries, UEP's rechargeable zinc manganese dioxide battery technology offers potentially a lower-cost, higher-performance alternative to the lead acid and Li-ion batteries currently in the market.
