Innovators at Work
Manifold Robotics
Manifold Robotics is redefining how utilities inspect transmission lines—replacing costly helicopter flyovers with drones that can safely “see” the lines themselves using electromagnetic fields. With early funding, mentorship, and ongoing guidance from NYSERDA’s Innovation & Research Program, the company has grown from a university project into a field-tested solution in cooperation with the New York Power Authority.

MICATU
MICATU, an Upstate NY company founded by two telecom engineers, is revolutionizing the way electricity is measured — using optical sensing instead of traditional equipment. What started in a garage has grown into a 50,000 sq ft manufacturing facility with 50+ employees, building non-invasive sensors that increase grid reliability, cut emissions, and improve worker safety — all while being made and deployed right here in New York.
And, it wouldn’t have happened without NYSERDA. With six project awards and a clean energy competition win, NYSERDA helped MICATU turn R&D into real-world results — including pilots with Con Edison, Avangrid, and National Grid.
