Offshore Wind Technical and Training Workshop

This workshop is an opportunity for local businesses, training providers, labor organizations, and educators to coordinate with offshore wind developers, component manufacturers, and service suppliers to identify the technology and training needs of Sunrise Wind, Empire Wind, and future offshore wind projects in the region. The workshop will also set the stage for New York’s $20 million Offshore Wind Training Institute, which will provide benefits to workers across New York State through new job training programs, tailored college curriculum, and enhanced academic research opportunities.

Prospective Applicants Webinar: Offshore Wind Port Infrastructure Request for Qualifications (RFQL)
October 11, 2019

NYSERDA, the New York State Department of Transportation, and Empire State Development hosted a webinar to provide prospective applicants with the opportunity to clarify their understanding of any aspect of this RFQL. Prospective applicants were encouraged to submit questions in advance of the webinar according to the instructions on the registration page, but questions could also be asked during the webinar.

New York State Offshore Wind Open House Events

NYSERDA’s Offshore Wind Team hosted a series of open house events to discuss the State's efforts to advance offshore wind, including New York’s unprecedented awards for 1,696 MW of offshore wind energy. NYSERDA staff presented details of the two announced projects – Empire Wind (Equinor US Holdings, Inc.) and Sunrise Wind (Bay State Wind LLC, a joint venture of Ørsted A/S and Eversource Energy) – as submitted in the project proposals, including local impacts and opportunities.

New York Offshore Wind Public Webinar
July 24, 2019

NYSERDA hosted two public webinars to discuss New York’s offshore wind announcement totaling 1,696 megawatts. In addition to updates from NYSERDA on the announcement and accompanying state initiatives, representatives from project developers Empire Wind (Equinor US Holdings, Inc.) and Sunrise Wind (Bay State Wind LLC, a joint venture of Ørsted A/S and Eversource Energy) – the two projects selected for contract negotiation – presented details of their project proposals, including proposed port facilities, economic and community benefits, and plans for future public engagement.

Other topics covered included the 9,000-megawatt offshore wind mandate enacted by the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act and updates on the offshore wind Technical Working Groups and National Offshore Wind Research and Development Consortium.

New York Offshore Wind Supplier Forum 2019

The 2019 Offshore Wind Supplier Forum, sponsored by NYSERDA, facilitated the introduction and networking between existing offshore wind suppliers and local service, component, and material providers. Suppliers from companies such as Bladt, General Electric, Gulf Island Fabrication, Hellenic Cables, LS Cable America, MHI Vestas, Nexans, NKT Cables, Siemens Gamesa, Smulders, and Ventower Industries were in attendance. Keynote presentations were made by New York State Deputy Secretary for Energy and Environment Dale Bryk, NYSERDA President and CEO Alicia Barton, and NYSERDA Chief of Staff Peter Olmsted.

Commercial Fishing Transit Lanes and Offshore Wind Energy Workshop
March 27, 2019

NYSERDA, in partnership with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and the Responsible Offshore Development Alliance, is hosting a workshop on commercial fishing transit lanes and offshore wind energy throughout the New York Bight. The workshop will present information collected on New York Bight transit routes and gather feedback from participants to inform the creation of a Workshop Report that provides a clearer understanding of where transit lanes would provide the greatest value prior to the delineation of new offshore wind lease areas in the New York Bight. New York State Offshore Wind Public Webinar, February 13, 2019

NYSERDA hosted a public webinar to provide the latest updates on the development of offshore wind in New York State. This webinar covered Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s Green New Deal announcements, including $200 million of investments in port infrastructure and the ramped-up target of developing 9,000 megawatts of offshore wind power by 2035, as well as regional and industry updates, stakeholder engagement activities, and new studies and surveys.

NYSERDA hosted a conference for proposers via webinar on Thursday November 29, 2018. This webinar provided proposers with the opportunity to ask questions regarding the RFP and reviewed elements of the RFP including background information, eligibility criteria, submission requirements, the proposal evaluation process, contract commitments, and the post-award process and agreement.

Marine Resource Advisory Council Meeting, East Setauket, NY, January 17, 2017
The Marine Resource Advisory Council held a public meeting where NYSERDA was part of the formal agenda and presented a "NYS Offshore Wind Master Plan" presentation and conducted a questions and answers session for approximately 30 minutes. The general topics were: an introduction to offshore wind, what offshore wind means for New York, and an introduction to the offshore wind Master Planning process.

ACE NY 2016 Fall Conference, Albany, NY, November 2-3, 2016
The Alliance for Clean Energy New York held their 10th annual fall conference and membership meeting to discuss the opportunities and challenges for achieving 50% renewable energy and a clean energy future for New York State. Greg Matzat, senior advisor of NYSERDA’s Large-scale Renewables participated on a panel discussion about Clean Energy Standard Implementation Issues.

AWEA Offshore Windpower 2016, Warwick, RI, October 25-26, 2016
The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) Offshore WINDPOWER 2016 Conference & Exhibition program gathered top developers and experts in offshore wind energy to define the next steps in maintaining a positive trend for the industry. The conference focused on analyzing new developments, examined the latest lessons learned, and highlighted the best areas for potential cost reductions. John Rhodes gave a presentation discussing NYSERDA’s offshore wind initiatives and Offshore Wind Master Plan. Greg Matzat participated on a panel discussion that focused on states policies and market drivers that are increasing demand for offshore wind energy and to those states and regions that are in need of such policies to move offshore wind development forward.

Public Meeting, New York City, June 29, 2016
NYSERDA provided details on its participation in the U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s auction for a commercial offshore wind energy lease off the coast of Long Island. This meeting focused on how the lease auction will fit into New York State’s Offshore Wind Master Plan and NYSERDA’s plans for risk assessments and cost reductions if successful in bidding.
