You can power your home with solar energy and some help from NY-Sun. NY-Sun provides incentives to homeowners in New York to install solar electric systems.
Affordable Solar, part of NY-Sun, provides additional incentives to help lower the cost of installing solar for low-to moderate-income homeowners. For homeowners with total household income less than 80% of the area or state median income, it doubles the current NY-Sun incentive for solar electric system installations.
There’s a lot to think about before installing a solar electric system on your home. For all solar customers, before you start your solar project, read the NY-Sun Customer Guide [PDF]
Who Can Apply
Income-eligible electric account holders who own and live in their home may qualify for Affordable Solar.
How to Apply
Choose one or more participating NY-Sun Participating Contractors to assess your home for solar and provide an estimate of costs and options, including the incentives.
Download, complete, and submit the Affordable Solar Incentive Eligibility Application [PDF], if you think you are income-eligible. Let your solar contractor know you have applied for Affordable Solar. You and your solar installer will then receive a letter stating your eligibility. Your installer will submit all other paperwork to NYSERDA for the incentive and installation.
Bringing Solar to Renters and Multifamily Building Residents
Organizations working to bring solar to low-to-moderate income residents who live in apartments or do not own their home should refer to the Affordable Solar Predevelopment and Technical Assistance program.
