Build-Ready Project Sites

NYSERDA advanced the first four Build-Ready sites identified for renewable energy development and host community engagement, marking significant progress under the state’s landmark renewable energy law. These sites represent a new state-led model that complements commercial development by prioritizing the development of underutilized sites seeking to advance renewable energy on dormant electric generating sites, former industrial sites, existing or abandoned commercial sites, brownfields and landfills, and other areas which for a variety of reasons present atypical risks or challenges for commercial developers, adding to those projects awarded as part of the state’s land-based procurement.

 Sites include:

  • Former Livingston Correctional Facility (Livingston County)
The former medium security correctional facility in the Town of Groveland, could potentially host a 10- to 15-megawatt solar energy facility on the land outside of the secure perimeter.

  • Ogdensburg-Lisbon (City of Ogdensburg/Town of Lisbon, St. Lawrence County)
The properties in consideration are in the City of Ogdensburg and the Town of Lisbon, in close proximity to two correctional facilities, and could potentially host a 10- to 20-megawatt solar energy facility.
  • Plattsburgh Industrial Site (Town of Plattsburgh, Clinton County)
The Town of Plattsburgh’s Master Plan has identified a redevelopment strategy for former Clinton County Airport that the Build-Ready program envisions supporting through the potential development of a 25- to 35-megawatt solar energy facility.
  • St. Lawrence County Mine (Town of Clifton, St. Lawrence County) BR Benson Mines
The former mine could potentially host a 20- to 30- megawatt solar energy facility on a tailings pile, which is mostly barren.
