Project Description
Gilbane, the Institute for Community Living (ICL), and Aufgang Architects are leading the new construction, mixed-use, West Tower Supportive Housing project, aimed at serving some of the most vulnerable populations in the city. The West Tower is part of the multi-phased project located within a NYS designated disadvantaged community in the Bronx, NY. The 266-unit, 100% affordable project with 60% designated as supportive housing for low- to moderate-income (LMI) residents, will be a model of all-electric, high-performance, sustainable, affordable housing construction. It is committed to achieving numerous sustainability certifications, including Phius 2021 Core and LEED v4 Multifamily Mid-Rise Platinum, ensuring an efficient, comfortable, healthy, and resilient building for its residents. In addition to its dwelling units and amenity spaces, the project will also feature a 7,124 square foot Health Hub operated by ICL that will provide a range of health programs and resources to the broader South Bronx community.

Kicked off in early 2019, BOE recognizes and rewards the design, construction, and operation of resilience, climate-friendly multifamily buildings that are healthier for residents and their communities.
Designing and developing clean and resilient buildings that are good for both businesses and residents is at the core of this competition.
The honorees are visionary architects and developers who take the lead in achieving beautiful, zero-emission buildings that improve quality of life and inspire the industry to follow their example toward a climate-friendly future. Their projects are beneficial for the environment, highly profitable, and provide them a competitive edge in the marketplace.
