Offshore Energy
New York State is committed to developing offshore wind in a responsible manner that considers environmental impacts and seeks to mitigate them. NYSERDA’s Environmental Research Program supports efforts to improve the scientific and technical understanding of the offshore environment to minimize conflicts and lower costs associated with offshore wind. This research focuses on answering key policy-relevant questions related to the development of offshore wind and stakeholder-identified environmental and fisheries concerns.
Stakeholder Collaboration
The program works collaboratively with stakeholders including scientists, fishermen, environmental organizations, New York State and federal regulators, and offshore wind developers. NYSERDA fosters further opportunities for collaboration through two technical working groups to assess the applicability of existing research and identify knowledge gaps related to offshore wind:
- Environmental Technical Working Group (E-TWG)
is an independent advisory body to the State of New York, with a regional focus on offshore wind and wildlife. - Fisheries Technical Working Group (F-TWG)
is a group of commercial fisheries representatives and offshore wind energy developers who provide guidance and advice on how to responsibly implement New York State’s efforts to advance offshore wind energy development.
