Work History

Basil Seggos is the Commissioner of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC).
Previously, Mr. Seggos served as both Deputy Secretary for the Environment and Assistant Secretary for the Environment to former Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. He advised the Governor on environmental policy and oversaw the operations of the State’s environmental agencies, including the DEC, the Office of Parks Recreation and Historic Preservation, the Environmental Facilities Corporation, and the Adirondack Park Agency.
Prior to working in the Governor’s office, he served as vice president of business development at the cleantech private equity company Hugo Neu Corporation, chief investigator and attorney at Riverkeeper, an associate at the Natural Resources Defense Council, and a legal clerk at the White House.
Mr. Seggos is a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve, Judge Advocate General’s Corps.
Education
Mr. Seggos graduated from Pace Law School, where he received a juris doctor degree and environmental law and alumni achievement awards. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in public policy from Trinity College.
