All of the training provided in this directory is supported with funding by NYSERDA. This directory lists trainings that are currently available to the public and will be updated periodically as new training is made available and old training is discontinued.

Newport Ventures Transitioning to High Performance: Residential Building Strategies Energy Efficiency 3 NYSDOS In-service (Course Number T02-07-2981) and AIA LU-HSW credits

This course is designed for residential builders and architects, and examines moving from minimum compliance with the ECCCNYS-2020 to incorporating high performance technology and practices into building design and construction. The course will consist of two major parts: 

  1. Technology that enables relatively easy and cost-effective transition to above-code performance; and, 
  2. The business case for investing in higher performance construction.

In addition to introducing some innovative technologies, this course reviews case studies based on interviews with above-code builders and how they successfully evolved their building practices. When possible, local guest speakers from building, trade and design professions will offer first-hand experience with moving beyond code-minimum practice.

Research suggests that many code officials have limited time to perform plan reviews and that life and safety requirements necessarily take priority. This webinar is Part 1 of a two-part series, and will help code officials prioritize what energy code requirements to review with limited time. It covers strategies for performing effective and efficient reviews of modeling-based submittals including identifying the impactful aspects of design to help prioritize the review effort and the key review steps including checking submittals for completeness; confirming that building systems and components shown in the Compliance Form reflect design documents; validating that the configuration of the baseline (budget) design model is established correctly based on the applicable rules of ASHRAE 90.1; establishing that, based on the simulation reports, the baseline (budget) and proposed designs were modeled as described in the Compliance Form; and that the compliance outcome is established correctly based on the modeling results. It demonstrates QC features of DOE/PNNL Compliance Form and helps modelers establish internal quality control procedures to reduce the number of review iterations when submitting to above code programs or for code compliance.
