Discussion: Optimizing EV Range
With winter just around the corner, it’s important to remember that colder temperatures (lower than 68°F) can impact your EV’s range. Here are tips to improve range and overall battery life:
- If you have access to an indoor garage, park your EV inside to retain more heat.
- If possible, preheat the interior of your EV and your battery while it’s still plugged in prior to your departure.
- Plan your routes in advance with chargers in mind, on the off chance you need to top off while en route.
- Avoid depleting your EV’s battery to below 10%.
- Avoid charging your battery all the way to 100% for daily driving. Depending on your model, you can set charging to stop at a predetermined percentage.
- Keep your windows closed at higher speeds to reduce drag.
- Don’t have a lead foot – driving at a lower average speed helps keep you safe and provides a longer range.
- Utilize features like Eco Mode or regenerative braking during non-severe cold weather conditions.
- Keep up with your EV’s software updates – this ensures you have access to the latest improvements, making your driving experience even better.
