Project Description

Brightly Farms (opens in new window) is a family owned and operated vegetable growing and processing facility located within a New York State designated disadvantaged community in Hamlin. The proposed Brightly Cold Storage project is a recently built pole barn that will be undergoing an adaptive re-use retrofit to be used as cold storage for the short-term preservation of crops from October through March. This building retrofit will be designed to be zero emissions, with no usage of fossil fuels with full electrification of equipment. There will be a 154 kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar photovoltaic system to offset the building’s energy usage. An improved building envelope and energy control for lighting and climate will allow Brightly Farm to maximize energy efficiency and eliminate wasted energy. Coupled with a 7,488 square foot all-electric cooling for the cold storage, this building redesign will achieve a minimum modeled source energy savings of 20% when compared to the relevant Energy Conversation Construction Code of NY (ECCCNYS) per Appendix G of ASHRAE Standard 90.1.
