Project Description

The project, located on the main State University of New York (SUNY) Oneonta (opens in new window) campus involves a deep energy retrofit and renovation of Netzer Hall for student and administrative services. The scope includes construction of a geothermal loop and heat pumps that will fully electrify the building with a planned energy use intensity of approximately 32 kilo British Thermal Units (KBTU) per square feet. The work will transform an outdated building into a modern, comfortable service center, reduce stormwater runoff from impervious areas and provide resiliency and business continuity for campus essential services in the event of an extended electrical outage. Renovations will include abatement of hazardous materials, full interior demolition and renovation, new elevators and replacement of the roof and window systems. Site work will include a reduction in parking spaces, provision for electric vehicle charging, green buffers, bioswales and other stormwater management features. Upgraded digital controls will provide increased occupant comfort and the ability to heat and cool at once will protect occupants from the effects of heat waves late or early in the year.

The Building Cleaner Communities Competition

The Building Cleaner Communities Competition supports regionally significant, zero emissions and resilient new construction and existing building renovation projects across New York State. Building Cleaner Communities projects demonstrate how they will help achieve the goals of the New York State Regional Economic Development Council’s Strategic Plan (opens in new window) or other State priorities, while creating resilient and functional spaces that are healthy, safe, comfortable.
