Project Description

317 Vulcan St LLC is a property development company that owns the building at 317 Vulcan Street, located within a New York State designated disadvantaged community in Buffalo that houses the Family Support Center (opens in new window) office at the Charter School for Applied Technologies (CSAT) providing mental health services to students and their families. The Vulcan St project is designed to significantly improve the building’s energy performance, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and serve as a replicable model for sustainable community-serving facilities across the region. The existing site consists of a 9,000 square foot metal building aims to achieve net zero performance with the installation of a rooftop solar photovoltaic system, a geothermal heating and cooling system replacing traditional HVAC equipment, high performance envelope and new energy-efficient windows enhancing thermal performance, occupant comfort, and overall substantially lowering fossil fuel usage and operational emissions.

The Building Cleaner Communities Competition

The Building Cleaner Communities Competition supports regionally significant, zero emissions and resilient new construction and existing building renovation projects across New York State. Building Cleaner Communities projects demonstrate how they will help achieve the goals of the New York State Regional Economic Development Council’s Strategic Plan (opens in new window) or other State priorities, while creating resilient and functional spaces that are healthy, safe, comfortable.
