For New Yorkers Ready to Upskill, a Queens-Based Company Offers Virtual Transportation Electrification Training, with Help from NYSERDA
Soulful Synergy, a New York-based consultancy, uses NYSERDA funding to offer courses and certifications, helping to bridge the gap between underserved communities and high-quality careers.
Soulful Synergy is a minority-owned workforce development agency dedicated to creating equitable and sustainable communities. Since 2013, it has successfully run tailored recruitment and training programs that tap into the soul of communities and upskill local workforces for clean energy and other high-demand jobs in green construction.
In 2019, and with funding from NYSERDA, Soulful Synergy developed partnerships with Willdan Energy Solutions, ConEdison, and others to form a workforce development “Clean Energy Academy.” The Academy offers courses that can serve as an on-ramp for workers looking to get into clean energy, or for clean energy professionals looking to transition to the energy efficiency workforce.

For two years, until the end of 2025, the Academy will be offering targeted training in transportation electrification and electric vehicle charging equipment (EVCE), with a certificate of completion.
Attendees can:
- Learn to install, design, and operate EVCE
- Facilitate the adoption of electric vehicles
- Facilitate the installation of EVCE at their facilities
- Get experience conducting feasibility studies to evaluate EVCE installation plans
Training for All Levels of Experience
Training participants represent a diverse group of New York State workers, from entry-level to more experienced professionals currently in roles such as bus drivers, electrical installers, engineers, project managers, sustainability directors, maintenance workers, facilities managers, parking attendants, and many more.
Three Virtual Sessions
Training, which is offered in both English and Spanish, consists of three intensive virtual sessions:
- Transportation Electrification Basics
- Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Site Feasibility
- EVCE Installation and Managed Charging

Training Goals
Soulful Synergy aims to train 1,000 individuals over two years. As of April 2025, they have already trained more than 600 individuals.
