Ensuring a consistent supply of trained electrical workers

“Energy Storage and Microgrid are emerging electrical technologies and with the support of NYSERDA, I am now able to work on upcoming projects in the region.”

Energy Storage and Microgrid Training

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) developed an Energy Storage and Microgrid (ESM) training and certification program. Known as ESAMTAC, the course prepares electricians for the safe and effective assembly, testing, commissioning, maintenance, repair, retrofitting, and decommissioning of ESM systems. By integrating the training into IBEW’s existing apprenticeship curriculum, this leading edge industry program elevates the specialty skills and knowledge required to safely work on energy storage and microgrid projects. It also ensures a consistent supply of trained electrical workers for projects across New York State.

“I gained knowledge of the benefits of energy savings through the use of these types of lighting controls.”

Advanced Lighting Controls Training

NYSLMCC’s training, offered by IBEW, addressed the need for an updated apprentice/journeyman electrician course related to advanced lighting controls. This 16-hour training, comprised of lectures and hands-on experiences, was offered to 120 IBEW members as part of IBEW’s registered electrical apprenticeship program at 15 training centers across the State.
