Connecting with New Yorkers

Working together to responsibly develop offshore wind energy

Connecting With New Yorkers

Stakeholder input is a critical component for the responsible development of renewable energy resources for New York State. Since the beginning of our program, NYSERDA has prioritized identifying and engaging with key stakeholder groups, especially routine ocean users, such as mariners and fishermen, whose activities will help shape offshore wind development.

Guiding Principles for Offshore Wind Stakeholder Engagement Residents, Government, Business, Environment

Offshore wind development will involve collaboration and cooperation between project developers, communities, marine users, labor organizations, state and city officials and more. These Guiding Principles are intended to support developers as they design their Stakeholder Engagement Plans, which, similar to existing Environmental and Fisheries Mitigation Plans, will be required in future NYSERDA solicitations for Offshore Wind Renewable Energy Certificates (ORECs). Download the Guiding Principles for Offshore Wind Stakeholder Engagement [PDF] to learn more on how all New Yorkers will be involved in this exciting and prosperous new industry.

Webinar Series

Go to Webinar Series NYSERDA is hosting a webinar series called Learning from the Experts to educate interested stakeholders on various aspects of offshore wind development. These webinars are specifically designed to offer information for those new to offshore wind to help provide a foundational knowledge of offshore wind technology and its interactions in the ocean environment. NYSERDA regularly hosts public webinars to provide updates on our program, offshore wind project development, and results of our Technical Working Group (TWG) collaborations. We encourage anyone interested in the development and use of offshore wind energy to check the Announcements and Events page regularly for updates and sign up for our email blasts to stay informed.

Events

Go to Events NYSERDA regularly sponsors and conducts open houses, meetings with local elected officials and community leaders, school presentations, forums for businesses and academia, and specialized stakeholder group workshops to inform and hear from the public. These public outreach efforts focus on offshore wind education, updates on the State’s progress in developing offshore wind energy, supporting and preparing the local supply chain, and advancing workforce development initiatives. If you are interested in scheduling a presentation by a member of our team, or have an idea for how NYSERDA can connect with New Yorkers, contact us at [email protected].

For Communities

NYSERDA is working to educate communities on the threats of climate change and the tremendous benefits of offshore wind development for our environment, our economy, and our workforce.

For Businesses and Job Seekers

NYSERDA is working with partners from other State agencies, industry, labor, and academia to identify pathways to well-paying careers in offshore wind and develop training programs for New York job seekers.

For Educators

Offshore Wind is an exciting new industry in the U.S. moving New York State towards a clean energy future, and NYSERDA is eager to inspire the next generation of innovators. Working with educators, NYSERDA is reaching out to young people to describe how offshore wind can help provide a solution to our world’s climate change crisis, how they can support offshore wind and get involved, and to discuss future career opportunities.
