Focus Areas
Essential to cost-effective and responsible development
There is enormous wind energy potential off the Atlantic coast, particularly an area south of Long Island and southeast of New York City called the New York Bight. Offshore Wind will be one of New York's main sources of electricity as the state progresses towards 70% renewable energy by 2030.
Weighing both the possible risks and the potential for benefits at a global scale, New York State is committed to developing offshore wind in a responsible way that considers a variety of impacts and attempts to mitigate them. NYSERDA has concentrated efforts on the focus areas below.
