Support for adopting building performance systems—meters, controls, smart thermostats, smart building technologies, and more


If you do not see a program related to an energy upgrade you would like to make, contact your utility provider. Many utilities offer custom energy efficiency programs and incentives.


New York State Programs & Incentives

C&I Carbon Challenge—Competition for large businesses (with a 12-month average electricity demand of 10 MW) to unlock highly cost-effective carbon reduction opportunities. Awardees will continue to work with NYSERDA to update, refine, and implement their carbon reduction strategies over three years. The C&I Carbon Challenge is part of the state's Consolidated Funding Application (CFA), administered by the Regional Economic Development Councils. Learn more. 

Flexible Technical Assistance (FlexTech) Program—Financial support for completing an energy study to identify and evaluate opportunities to reduce energy costs and incorporate clean energy into capital planning. The study can evaluate what building performance systems may be right for your business, and more. Learn more.

Real Time Energy Management Program—Financial and technical support for installing a cutting-edge real-time energy management system (RTEM). NYSERDA will cost-share up to 30 percent of the overall RTEM project expenses and provide support to reap the benefits of building performance optimization. Learn more.

On-site Energy Manager Program—NYSERDA will cost-share a percentage of fees for hiring a dedicated on-site energy manager to assess and reduce energy usage. Projects may include preventive maintenance plans, process improvements, energy efficiency upgrades, and more. Commercial and industrial facilities or campuses that do not already have a dedicated full-time on-site energy manager are eligible. Learn more.

Strategic Energy Management Program—NYSERDA offers two fully-funded training programs for businesses to develop a comprehensive approach to aligning energy efficiency with business practices and goals to achieve long-term benefits. Participants will be guided by a professional coach to develop a SEM plan that will increase profitability, help attain environmental goals, and achieve greater resiliency. Learn more.


Central Hudson Programs & Incentives

Con Edison Program & Incentives

Savings for Multifamily Buildings – Equipment rebates for multifamily buildings, including HVAC, lighting and controls, weatherization, energy management systems, and low flow measures. National Grid Programs & Incentives

Custom Energy Efficiency Programs (New York City and Long Island)—Incentives and support for energy efficiency upgrades in existing buildings (including controls and operating systems). Learn more.Link opens in new window - close new window to return to this page.

Energy Management Systems (EMS) Program (Upstate New York)—Incentives to offset the cost of installing EMS technology or expanding an existing system to improve energy efficiency. Multifamily Program (Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island)  – National Grid provides support for prescriptive incentive measures, custom incentive measures, direct install measures, and a one-pipe steam system retrofitting program for Downstate multifamily customers. Learn more.Link opens in new window - close new window to return to this page.

Tiered Incentive Program (Upstate New York)—Up to 25 percent in financial incentives to complete a number of energy efficiency projects (including updates to energy management systems) for large commercial and industrial customers.
