Packaged Terminal ACs and Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps

Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners (PTACs) and Packaged Terminal Heat Pumps (PTHPs), ideal for hotels, motels, apartments, office buildings, or any location requiring variable and individualized room heating and cooling, install in an exterior wall and deliver conditioned air directly without ductwork. The installation of high-efficiency equipment offers significant energy savings and lower operating costs, especially for multiple units installed at a single site.

Note: The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) postponed its development of ENERGY STAR® criteria for PTACs and PTHPs, pending a rulemaking to increase minimum efficiency levels in the Federal standard. Once this rulemaking is final, DOE will resume its criteria development process for PTACs and PTHPs.

Energy Saving Tips for PTACs and PTHPs

  • Consider regular maintenance. Regular maintenance optimizes your heating and cooling system performance.
  • Change the Filter. Changing your filter regularly (at least every three months) is a good idea, but it is hard to know how much energy it actually saves. Check your filter every month, especially during heavy use months (winter and summer). If the filter looks dirty after a month, change it.
