Automated Dynamics - Schenectady, NY
February 14, 2013
In addition to $400,000 in funding awarded to Automated Dynamics by NYSERDA, the company has received $1,720,000 of external funding to aid developing and commercializing their latest laser-heating process. Formerly, the Schenectady based firm used an electrically-heated gas torch to fuse together layers of composite materials such as plastics containing carbon or glass fibers. The new laser technique saves more than half the expended energy and also helps to speed the rate of fabrication of lightweight, aerodynamic parts used by the aerospace, military and energy industries. This new process is estimated to improve energy efficiency of parts manufacturing by 63 percent.
