In the Classroom

The curricular materials created for the School Power...Naturally program include 64 lessons that meet learning standards for New York State students in grades 5 through 12.

Lesson Levels II and III

  • Level II: Lessons 1-22, grades 5-8
  • Level III: Lessons 23-45, grades 9-12

Within levels, the focus is on New York State’s Learning Standards for Mathematics, Science, and Technology. For Science, the standards include the components: Physical Setting and Living Environment. Additional components for Levels II and III include:

  • Level II - Interdisciplinary or General Energy component for subject areas other than Science
  • Level III - Living Environment's Environmental Considerations

Note: Level II Earth Science course may use Level III lessons 32-37. Level III lessons may be used for Level II lessons 1, 2, and 6.

When individual lessons are examined through the Extensions section, connections to other disciplines other than Science may be apparent.

Solar Kit Lessons

The last 15 lessons are Solar Kit Lessons and are meant to be used with small PV demonstration kits that provide hands-on classroom instruction. The kit assembly instructions are simple enough to order components and assemble setups. Listed in order of grade-level appropriateness from Level I to Level III, they match the New York State Learning Standards for Mathematics, Science, and Technology.
