Process for Using FlexTech Consultants

Facility owners may work with a NYSERDA FlexTech Consultant or an independent service provider.

NYSERDA FlexTech Consultants are firms under contract with NYSERDA to provide statewide geographic distribution of the eligible project categories. These firms must apply to NYSERDA using examples of energy efficiency expertise.

The following steps outline how to engage FlexTech Consultants for an energy study:

  1. The customer submits a Consolidated Funding Application for an energy study.
  2. If the customer and project are eligible, NYSERDA assists the customer in selecting a NYSERDA FlexTech consultant (if necessary) and may schedule a site visit or scoping call where all three parties can get together to review the facilities and discuss the project.
  3. The NYSERDA FlexTech Consultant will collect sufficient information to develop a Scope of Work (a.k.a. Task Work Order) and all parties will agree to the tasks to be included in the study. The customer signs the FlexTech Terms and Conditions.
  4. The NYSERDA FlexTech Consultant presents the draft Scope of Work and customer signed terms and conditions to NYSERDA. NYSERDA reviews Scope for technical and program compliance.
  5. NYSERDA emails the Scope of Work to customer for review.
  6. The customer reviews the Scope of Work, requests revisions (if necessary), and agrees to final Scope of Work.
  7. The customer and the FlexTech Consultant negotiate terms for payment of customer's share. At this point in the process, the customer's financial obligation for cost-sharing begins.
  8. The NYSERDA FlexTech Consultant receives a Notice to Proceed from NYSERDA.
  9. The NYSERDA FlexTech Consultant undertakes the study in accordance with the Scope of Work and develops draft report. The draft is submitted to NYSERDA for review. NYSERDA submits the final report to the customer.
