Building Owners and Managers

Benefits

By promoting energy efficient tenant spaces, landlords can improve their building’s energy score, gain a competitive leasing edge and develop positive relationships with their tenants. With tenants responsible for 40% - 60% of a commercial building’s energy profile, addressing tenant energy usage is imperative to remaining competitive in today’s market. Tenants are also increasingly interested in leasing healthy spaces that facilitate productivity and talent attraction, both of which go hand in hand with energy efficiency.

How can NYSERDA help?

NYSERDA provides incentives to cover the cost of a consultant who will work with you and your tenants to uncover energy efficiency opportunities in tenant spaces and help plan for their implementation.

NYSERDA can support your efforts to conduct energy audits in tenant spaces, develop a portfolio strategy, and execute energy-reduction initiatives. With our support, you can:

  • Identify energy efficiency opportunities for new or existing tenants
  • Educate tenants on the benefits of energy efficiency and engage them in energy efficiency initiatives
  • Improve your property rating for ENERGY STAR and GRESB, and comply with local laws
  • Improve your pre-build and test fit-out designs
  • Develop and optimize tenant design guidelines and standards
  • Add value by referring tenants who are pursuing LEED ID+C (Interior Design) and Construction to the program
