Offshore Wind in New York State

offshore wind turbines

As codified in the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, New York’s nation-leading climate legislation, the State is committed to pursuing the development of 9,000 megawatts (MW) of offshore wind energy by 2035 - enough electricity to power up to 6 million homes. The development of this resource supports the State's unprecedented clean energy goals and will provide clean, abundant energy to New York City and Long Island. In addition, it will further the State’s objective of growing the number of home-grown, renewable, carbon-free sources of energy to the grid, while creating statewide jobs and encouraging investments in coastal communities and infrastructure. Furthermore, New York State is committed to ensuring that energy from offshore wind is developed in a responsible and cost-effective manner.
