EPA Recognizes NYSERDA with 2016 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year Sustained Excellence Award for Eleventh Year

NYSERDA Acknowledged for its Commitment to Residential Energy Efficiency Across New York State

April 05, 2016

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) with a 2016 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year- Sustained Excellence Award for the eleventh year. The award recognizes NYSERDA's continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency achievements. NYSERDA's accomplishments will be recognized in Washington D.C. on April 13, 2016.

NYSERDA will be honored for its long-term commitment to energy efficiency, helping thousands of New Yorkers save energy over the last decade through its New York ENERGY STAR® Certified Homes (New Construction), Home Performance with ENERGY STAR® and New York Products (qualifying products) programs. NYSERDA is among six organizations that have won this award 11 years in a row or more.

In 2015, the combined energy savings from NYSERDA's New Construction, Home Performance with ENERGY STAR and Qualifying Products programs saved New York more than 34.5 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity and 590 million British thermal units (Btu) of fossil fuels, enough power to meet the annual energy needs of more than 5,000 homes.

"We are once again proud to receive the 2016 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year- Sustained Excellence Award," said John B. Rhodes, President and CEO, NYSERDA. "Energy efficiency helps residents save money and use less energy and is a key element of our comprehensive strategy to help the State achieve Governor Cuomo's ambitious energy goals."

"By continued collaboration with ENERGY STAR, NYSERDA is helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to reduce our nation's greenhouse gas emissions that exacerbate climate changes, "said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. "I'm proud to recognize NYSERDA with the highest form of ENERGY STAR recognition, as a winner of the 2016 Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Award. NYSERDA demonstrates a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations."

Since its inception in 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped prevent a total of more than 2.4 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In 2014 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners provided more than $11 billion in societal benefits due to reducing damages from climate change.

The 2016 Partner of the Year - Sustained Excellence Awards are given to a variety of organizations to recognize their contributions to reducing harmful carbon pollution through superior energy efficiency efforts. These awards recognize ongoing leadership across the ENERGY STAR program, including energy-efficient products, services, new homes, and buildings in the commercial, industrial, and public sectors. NYSERDA is one of 149 winners across the United States to be recognized.
