Summer Intern: Technology to Market, Talent Development - Albany Office

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, known as NYSERDA, promotes energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources. These efforts are key to developing a less polluting and more reliable and affordable energy system for all New Yorkers. Collectively, NYSERDA’s efforts aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, accelerate economic growth, and reduce customer energy bills.

This is a paid internship for current, matriculated students.  Students are allowed to work up to 37.5 hours per week in between semesters, when not attending class.

The intern will assist in developing, analyzing, and operating programs that help clean energy entrepreneurs and early-stage companies succeed in commercializing their products in New York State and globally. The position will report to the Technology to Market team, one of the five groups within NYSERDA’s Technology and Business Innovation (TBI) department.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the development and scaling of the NYSERDA Entrepreneurs-In-Residence (EIR) program
    • Evaluate new and current services
    • Perform customer discovery internally and externally
    • Develop reports to provide actionable information and recommend actions
    • Assist with execution of new initiatives
    • Assist development of new efficient processes
    • Review unrelated EIR programs for best practices
  • Provide support for the CEO Connect program
    • Assist with analyzing reports from contactor
  • Support Renewable Energy and Energy Storage Innovation portfolio companies
    • Review greenhouse gas savings models / forecasts
    • Other support as needed
  • Support TBI’s metrics and data integrity efforts
    • Test data for accuracy
    • Assist in developing processes to ensure accurate and completeness of entry of data by companies NYSERDA funds
  • Develop processes for a Lean project supporting the EIR program
  • Support development of a new portfolio investment evaluation and management program
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current full-time undergraduate or Masters student, pursuing a degree in engineering, science, business, or economics
  • Strong interest in innovation and entrepreneurship preferred
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Skill in managing multiple activities, delivering on commitments, and operating with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment
  • Strong interest in renewable energy and clean technology
  • Strong work ethic
