Summer Intern: Technology to Market, Manufacturing Development - Albany Office

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, known as NYSERDA, promotes energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources. These efforts are key to developing a less polluting and more reliable and affordable energy system for all New Yorkers. Collectively, NYSERDA’s efforts aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, accelerate economic growth, and reduce customer energy bills.

This is a paid internship for current, matriculated students.  Students are allowed to work up to 37.5 hours per week in between semesters, when not attending class.

The intern will assist in developing, analyzing, and operating programs that help clean energy entrepreneurs and early-stage companies succeed in commercializing their products in New York State and globally. The position will report to the Technology to Market team, one of the five groups within NYSERDA’s Technology and Business Innovation (TBI) department.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Gather qualitative and quantitative insights on the design, implementation, and efficacy of a new, high impact NYSERDA program supporting startup companies
  • Visualize data using Excel, Tableau, and other tools to help the NYSERDA team make outcome-driven decisions about program design and delivery. Mentorship on these data visualization tools will be provided by NYSERDA staff
  • Intern will benefit from exposure to new product manufacturing and supply chain management techniques
  • Intern will benefit from exposure to high growth cleantech startup companies and will learn Business Model Canvas methodology
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Availability to travel within New York State 10-20% (joined by NYSERDA staff)
  • Current, full-time student, pursuing associate, bachelor, or master degree
  • Excellent skills with the Microsoft Office suite of programs, with special emphasis on Microsoft Excel
  • Previous manufacturing experience or exposure is preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated ability to research primary and secondary sources
  • Skill in managing multiple activities, delivering on commitments, and operating with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment
  • Strong work ethic
