Summer Intern: Single Family Residential, Existing Homes - Albany Office

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, known as NYSERDA, promotes energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources. These efforts are key to developing a less polluting and more reliable and affordable energy system for all New Yorkers. Collectively, NYSERDA’s efforts aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, accelerate economic growth, and reduce customer energy bills.

The Single Family Residential Team seeks a summer intern to help develop an electronic revision to the Materials and Installation Guidelines (MIG) used by the NY Residential Existing Homes Program (Program).  This guide specifies the requirements for providing energy efficiency measures in residential dwellings.  The intern will assist in updating the MIG to create a version accessible by smartphones, tablets and other personal communication devices, while refining the content and improving clarity.

This is a paid internship for current, matriculated students.  Students are allowed to work up to 37.5 hours per week in between semesters, when not attending class.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Research into electronic formatting options
  • Working with the team to collect, triage and draft revisions based on input from participating contractors, internal staff and other interested parties
  • Research into energy efficiency strategies, website links and other enhancements
  • Assistance in editing and formatting the document
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current full-time student, pursuing associate, bachelor, or master degree
  • Excellent skills with the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Strong writing skills
  • Strong oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to research primary and secondary sources
  • Skill in managing multiple activities, delivering on commitments, and operating with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment
  • Strong work ethic
  • Experience in developing web pages, online documents or software applications preferred
