Summer Intern: Smart Grid and Distributed Energy Integration - Albany Office

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, known as NYSERDA, promotes energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources and other Distributed Energy Resources (DER). These efforts are key to developing a less polluting and more reliable and affordable energy system for all New Yorkers. Collectively, NYSERDA’s efforts aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, accelerate economic growth, and reduce customer energy bills.

This is a paid internship for current, matriculated students.  Students are allowed to work up to 37.5 hours per week in between semesters, when not attending class.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Work with manager to identify key DER interconnection issues in NY state and some outside NY
  • Develop criteria to evaluate all the potential solutions that are being developed
  • Work with the intern manager to interface with key solution-providers for evaluation
  • Submit a report to NYSERDA on the work completed
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current, full-time student, pursuing bachelor, or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Ability to understand basic electrical power system concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to research and analyze primary and secondary sources
  • Ability to organize ongoing work on DER interconnection in New York and other states
  • Excellent skills with the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Skill in managing multiple activities, delivering on commitments, and operating with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment
  • Strong work ethic
