Internship: Facilities and Information Technology - New York City Office

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, known as NYSERDA, promotes energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources. These efforts are key to developing a less polluting and more reliable and affordable energy system for all New Yorkers. Collectively, NYSERDA’s efforts aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, accelerate economic growth, and reduce customer energy bills.

Reporting to the Facilities and Security Operations Coordinator, and supporting the Service Desk Technician, the intern will be responsible for assisting in the daily facilities and IT operations to ensure an efficient, well-run and secure office.  The role includes timely response to facilities, office services and IT needs including, but not limited to, the daily functions of mail delivery, maintenance, cleaning, storage, recycling, conference room setups, and IT moves, adds and changes throughout NYSERDA’s New York City office space.

This is a paid internship for current, matriculated students. Students are allowed to work up to 37.5 hours per week in between semesters, when not attending class.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Sort/deliver incoming/outgoing mail –- USPS, Express Mail, Fulfillment Orders
  • Maintain furniture, assemble/disassemble, install and move furniture and telephones as/when required
  • Ensure printers/copiers/scanners/kitchen appliances are in working order, troubleshoot issues, schedule service as needed
  • Perform and complete tasks related to new hires, staff exits and staff moves
  • Maintain NYC office seating plans
  • Provide front desk coverage on Fridays, and as otherwise needed
  • Respond to and perform necessary tasks to resolve, complete and close-out help desk requests in a timely and accurate manner. Requests include but are not limited to garbage/recycling removal, shredding/recycling and electronic waste services
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Candidates should be able to demonstrate the following IT skills:

  • Technical knowledge in Windows and related software (Windows 7, 10 Office, Browsers, standard applications) 
  • Knowledge of mobile devices and printer hardware a plus
  • Experience working in a Virtual Machine environment a plus
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting processes and techniques
  • Ability to articulate issues completely when responding to Help Desk tickets
  • Highly organized and learns quickly
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current, full-time college student
  • Available for front desk coverage each Friday
  • Excellent skills with the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Skill in managing multiple activities, delivering on commitments, and operating with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment
  • Strong work ethic
