Single-Family Residential Team Building Owner Engagement - Albany Office
New York is leading the nation in the fight on global climate change and the transition to a clean energy-powered economy. With the passage of the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act, New York has codified the most aggressive climate change program in the nation with goals to reach zero carbon emissions in the electricity sector by 2040; install 9 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2035; 6 gigawatts of solar by 2025; and 3 gigawatts of energy storage by 2030. Additionally, the law creates the Climate Action Council comprised of the leaders of various state agencies and authorities as well as legislative appointments to develop a plan outlining how the state will achieve an 85% reduction in GHG emissions from 1990 levels by 2050, and eventually net zero emissions in all sectors of the economy.
NYSERDA’s One-to Four-Family homes programs are responsible for advancing solutions to increase access to clean energy solutions and the delivery of associated benefits to homes across New York State. NYSERDA’s Single Family Residential team administers the EmPower NY, Assisted Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, Comfort Home Pilot, and Residential Energy Assessment programs, as well as a number of initiatives designed to scale up the residential clean energy market. These programs are designed to offer whole-house residential energy efficiency upgrades, incentivizing air-sealing, insulation, HVAC equipment, efficient appliances and LED lighting, among other measures. Together, the programs serve approximately 20,000 households annually; however, there will be a significant annual increase needed by 2030 to achieve New York’s energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals.
NYSERDA’s Single Family Residential team is seeking an intern to complete research and develop a market engagement plan for owners of residential buildings, such as homeowner associations, co-op boards, condominium associations, and apartment owners, in order to determine motivators and barriers to clean energy upgrades of their buildings.
This is a paid internship for current, full-time college students. The pay rate is from $15 to $17 per hour based on current class year. This internship will begin on June 1st, 2023 and continue through the Summer.
Interns must be located in New York State while working. It is expected that interns will follow our telework policy, with a combination of in-office and remote work. Interns work up to 37.5 hours per week during the Summer.
- Assist team with the growing contractor participation in its programs with tasks such as:
- Residential industry related research and data analysis
- Developing a stakeholder outreach list
- Analysis of contractor activities with identified market areas
- Research on best outreach and communication activities within the target market
- Development of a market engagement plan for the target market
- Engaging with stakeholders including:
- Building owners and residents
- Residential contractors
- Other NYSERDA teams, including NYSERDA’s Multifamily team.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned
- Current, full-time college student, pursuing a degree in engineering, mathematics, sustainability, energy, environmental studies, business, communications, political science, law, sociology or related degree.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Excellent writing skills
- Ability to communicate and coordinate with external stakeholders
- Ability to synthesize stakeholder feedback
- Demonstrated ability to research primary and secondary sources
- Skill in managing multiple activities, delivering on commitments, and operating with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment
- Strong work ethic
Preferred but not required
- Understanding of clean energy retrofits and/or energy efficiency especially for residential buildings
