New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a driving force in realizing this agenda. NYSERDA works with stakeholders that span residents, business owners, developers, community leaders, local government officials, universities, utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, and more, to develop, invest, and foster conditions that:

  • Attract the private sector capital investment needed to expand New York’s clean energy economy
  • Overcome barriers to using clean energy at a large-scale in New York
  • Enable New York’s communities and residents to benefit equitably from energy efficiency and renewable energy


  • Reporting to NYSERDA’s Chief Program Officer, and in collaboration with existing NYSERDA change management resources, lead high-priority, cross-cutting projects, and initiatives across NYSERDA’s programs and related operational support from development through successful execution. Structure work plans, engage necessary internal and external stakeholders, lead, or guide market sector analysis, prepare recommendations, and translate the latter into program implementation. Build both the business case and organizational support to embed project conclusions and outcomes into ongoing program operations.
  • Serve as an advisor to the Chief Program Officer and, by extension, NYSERDA’s officer team on strategies, operational approaches, risk management, and business transformation. opportunities within the scope of NYSERDA programs to ensure that NYSERDA is positioned to operate as a highly customer-focused, data-driven, and nimble organization in the face of intensive ongoing policy, regulatory, and market change.
  • In close consultation with NYSERDA’s Office of the President and Officer team, contribute to efforts to verify and refine the organization’s strategic objectives and identify the highest-value operating model(s), programmatic structures, and organizational capabilities required to deliver against such.
  • Identify the need for and substantively contribute to structuring key partnerships necessary for NYSERDA to advance critical programs and initiatives across the state, given fiscal and other constraints. Support effective program partnerships by providing a full understanding of risks, benefits, and returns to realize the greatest value for New Yorkers while most effectively using its own resources.
  • Support the attainment of NYSERDA DE&I and Environmental justice goals with respect to NYSERDA program scope and team members, working in partnership with the DE&I Officer and HR Director to advance internal and external diversity, equity, and inclusion plans and goals.
  • Provide targeted internal consulting support within the organization and in collaboration with the Policy and Regulatory Affairs business unit to support program development and optimization.
  • Lead or guide efforts to segment customers and stakeholders; conduct needs assessments; develop business cases; scope required budget, personnel, and procurement resources in consultation with the Finance and HR teams; and strengthen team-based performance tracking and reporting across programs and initiatives. Partner with all program and operational teams to address customer needs in a thoughtful, systemic way across the organization.
  • Become a trusted source of insight within the organization about operational, programmatic, and other challenges that could compromise timely or complete achievement of strategic objectives, as well as possible solutions to such.

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of progressively responsible experience in management consulting or strategy-type roles and a relevant bachelor’s degree. A relevant master’s degree can substitute for up to 2 years of experience, depending on program duration.
  • Successful track record of leading planning efforts and executing strategic initiatives.
  • Extensive project management experience, with a combination of management and “hands-on” delivery experience.
  • Combination of creativity and critical thinking skills. Continuously identifies and seeks to act on opportunities, gaps, and points of connectivity across and outside the organization.
  • Highly driven, proactive, resourceful, and pragmatic problem-solver who takes initiative to identify and solve problems using available resources.
  • Strong experience presenting to executives and demonstrated communication skills.
  • Experience influencing and gaining buy-in from executives, team members, stakeholders, and peers.
  • Experience working both independently and, in a team, -oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Flexible with proven ability to conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Adept at conducting research into project-related issues and work variances.
  • Strong personal commitment to operational efficiency and optimization.
  • Proven capacity to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels. Equally comfortable working through influence, directly managing teams, and building capacity to deliver projects by developing staff.
  • Demonstrated analytical and research skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.


The salary range is $143,545 - $180,438. Candidates will be considered based on qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is offered.
