Program Manager, Clean Transportation - Albany or New York City Office

 

Job Overview

NYSERDA seeks an industry experienced, collaborative, and knowledgeable individual to join its Clean Transportation team to lead the design and delivery of innovative clean transportation programs and policies in New York State, working in close partnership with both public and private sectors.

The successful candidate will help to strategize and oversee the execution of current and future transportation programs as part of a portfolio of Clean Transportation initiatives. This includes a directive to shape clean transportation policy development at the state and regional levels.

  • Drive Clean Rebate
  • DC Fast Charging Programv
  • New York Clean Transportation Prizes
  • School bus electrification initiatives
  • Innovation initiatives around electric vehicles, public transportation, and mobility
  • Additional policy initiatives

This position requires someone with a strong background in energy and transportation and proven interpersonal skills. A successful candidate should be able to hit the ground running with knowledge of and relationships with public and private sector partners and stakeholders. The ability to establish relationships and forge new ones when needed is a must. A successful candidate must be able to constructively collaborate and interact with counterparts in other government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and industry participants. A successful candidate will be able to develop and execute a plan for advancing innovative equity-based approaches to clean transportation in New York State. Independent thought leadership and having the ability to simultaneously manage a wide range of projects is a must. An ideal candidate will be a great presenter and have the range and ability to successfully work with a wide range of stakeholders such as market players, regulators, sister agencies, State officials and local governments.

The State of New York has committed, through legislation, to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 85% below 1990 levels by 2050. The transportation sector is one of the two largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions in the State and reducing emissions from this sector is critical to meeting the State’s broader goals. The activities of the Clean Transportation team will be a major contributor to developing markets for clean transportation technologies that can decarbonize the transportation sector. Assuming a return to safe travel, the Program Manager will be expected to travel approximately 10% of professionally committed time to meet with team members, stakeholders, and potential partners. The position will report to the Assistant Director for Clean Transportation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee Clean Transportation team’s work on equitable mobility and transit, including existing and future programs focused on demonstrations of technologies, business strategies, and policies, and provide strategic insight to expand and evolve the programs
  • Oversee Clean Transportation team’s EV R&D portfolio, which consists of a mix of product development and demonstration projects
  • Work with the Clean Transportation team to actively manage a broad range of projects led by outside contractors with a clear focus on market adoption of clean transportation technologies
  • Manage relationships with other state agencies and participate in state policy development on topics critical to the proliferation of clean transportation options, such as program funding mechanisms, school bus electrification, air quality improvement programs, state fleet electrification, and utility EV programs.
  • Manage interactions with local governments to advance clean transportation initiatives, such as school bus electrification
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with leading market stakeholders including industry participants, end users, trade organizations, utilities, and government and represent NYSERDA in collaborative initiatives with other NYS agencies and public and private entities
  • Develop staff and colleagues to meet NYSERDA's goals and their own professional goals; serve as a mentor and a role model vIdentify and pursue opportunities for program improvement, including ways NYSERDA can better address equity in transportation
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8 years of relevant experience with a demonstrated record of success setting strategy, leading teams, and managing complex initiatives in the clean transportation space; bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred
  • Subject matter expertise in clean transportation, transportation electrification, and/or mobility and a passion for issues related to clean transportation and equity
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff and contractors and interacting with senior leadership in one’s own organization and in other organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to independently and simultaneously manage a broad portfolio of innovative programs, including setting workplans, delegating tasks, managing budgets, and overseeing internal and consultant work products
  • Strong written and oral communication skills; excellent strategic planning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite required; familiarity with Salesforce preferred

Preferences

  • Experience working with a broad spectrum of both public and private sector stakeholders
  • A strong understanding of the technology development and demonstration process, and experience identifying opportunities for technology innovation and market needs

Salary

The salary range is $116,686 - $147,256. Candidates will be considered based on qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is offered..
