Job Overview

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) seeks a Senior Project Manager to accelerate the deployment of quality assurance (QA) methods and services and the adoption of standards for technical and work quality for clean energy projects across New York State. The Senior Project Manager will apply QA methods to help elevate the overall quality of work and to motivate investor/buyer confidence in the benefits and performance of renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.  

This position is also responsible for management of quality assurance services that support programs where NYSERDA is investing directly in clean energy projects across all market sectors and technologies.  This position requires knowledge of market-based quality assurance methods and their application to the energy or construction sector(s). 

The position involves management of inspectors who work as contractors to NYSERDA, conducting field inspections, analyzing data, and reporting on results. The Senior Project Manager will also liaise with NYSERDA program staff and market actors completing projects to ensure quality standards are met and to provide additional support to improve quality over time.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain and improve the existing field inspection and technical services managed by the Standards and Quality Assurance team
  • Develop and implement processes to apply quality assurance and technical standards to capital equipment design, installation and construction in one or more of the market sectors or technologies served by NYSERDA
  • Provide excellent in-depth analytical and quantitative capabilities of managed programs; utilizing data platforms such as Salesforce and tools such as Tableau and Qualtrics are desirable
  • Create clear analysis and concise reports for NYSERDA program management and market actors (installers) to understand quality of projects
  • Develop and manage major complex projects. Strong project management skills, and the ability to successfully multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Manage inspectors working on behalf of NYSERDA to perform on-site inspections and conduct analysis of those results
  • Utilize strong knowledge of NYS codes, building, fire, plumbing, etc., and engineering standards/principles
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • 10 years of relevant quality assurance (QA) experience, such as developing, adopting and applying standards for technical and work quality, interacting with markets to accelerate the deployment of QA methods and services, and applying QA approaches to motivate investor/buyer confidence
  • Demonstrated record of success in delivering solutions within business, non-profit, utility, or government operating environments
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical ability, resourcefulness, adaptability, and an instinct for surfacing pragmatic solutions
  • Capacity to provide exceptional service delivery
  • A strong team member with an ability to build productive relationships across a diverse organization and with a diverse set of market actors
  • Ability to drive to big picture goals while maintaining a strong attention to detail
  • Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills that resonate with audiences of different backgrounds, the ability to communicate persuasively, concisely and unambiguously in speech and in writing
  • Excellent computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • A bachelor’s degree; an advanced degree is preferred
  • Professional engineer or engineering background preferred

Applicants should be able to demonstrate having some of the following skills enhanced by a willingness to quickly learn and develop proficiency in these areas:

  • Working knowledge of NYSERDA’s clean energy programs
  • Skill in gaining feedback from market actors to evolve approaches based upon market feedback
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis, sampling approaches and data collection methods and standards
  • Understanding of technical data sets, databases, database management, and data retrieval
  • Experience working in a team environment both as a leader and active team member; ability to adeptly manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to be proactive from initiating value-added analyses to quickly identifying and resolving issues, contributing to improving NYSERDA’s overall QA work and suggesting improvements to management


The salary range is $105,500 - $133,319. Candidates will be considered based on qualifications and experience.  An excellent benefits package is offered.
