NYSERDA seeks an experienced, independent and self-motivated individual to join its Clean Transportation team to help lead the design and delivery of innovative programs that advance the adoption of electric vehicles and EV charging stations in New York State working in close partnership with both public sector and private sector partners.

The successful candidate will work with the Clean Transportation team to help lead a portfolio of programs and initiatives totaling over $250 million in funding focused on transportation electrification, specifically focused on deploying EV charging stations and advancing state of the art EV technology in New York State. The position also includes opportunities to shape clean transportation policy development at the state and regional levels.

  • DC Fast Charging Program
  • Innovation initiatives around electric vehicles and public transportation
  • Additional policy initiatives

This position requires someone with a strong background in energy and transportation, established technical knowledge of EVs and EV charging, and experience working with both public and private sector partners that includes understanding how each makes business decisions. The candidate should have strong interpersonal skills to establish relationships and forge new ones as needed to enhance project outcomes and efficacy. Independent thought leadership and the ability to simultaneously manage a wide range of projects is a must. The candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of the technology development and demonstration process and experience identifying opportunities for technology innovation and market needs. An ideal candidate will be a great presenter and have the range and ability to successfully work with a wide range of stakeholders such as market players, regulators, sister agencies, State officials, and local governments.

Assuming a return to safe travel, the Project Manager will be expected to travel approximately 10% of professionally committed time to meet with team members, stakeholders and potential partners.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Manage a wide range of innovative and complex clean transportation projects throughout the project lifecycle:
    • program development
    • solicitation development
    • proposal selection
    • project refinement and contracting
    • project management and replication
  • Work with contractors to advance their projects by providing guidance and insights
  • Work with the Clean Transportation team to actively manage a broad range of projects led by outside contractors with a clear focus on market adoption of clean transportation technologies
  • Provide the Clean Transportation team with technical expertise on EVs and EV charging to inform all of its programs
  • Manage NYSERDA's EV charging programs throughout the program development and execution process and collaborate with other agencies (DOT, DEC, DPS, NYPA) on EV charging program development and execution
  • Lead initiative development for new transportation electrification initiatives and report on progress of initiatives once begun
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for program improvement including ways NYSERDA can better address equity in transportation
  • Participate in state policy development regarding transportation electrification topics
  • Cultivate and maintain strategic relationships with leading market stakeholders including industry participants, end users, trade organizations, utilities, and government and represent NYSERDA in collaborative initiatives with other NYS agencies and public and private entities
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of relevant experience managing complex projects in the clean transportation space and a bachelor’s degree; advanced degree preferred
  • Subject matter expertise in transportation electrification and a passion for issues related to clean transportation and equity
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a wide range of innovative and complex projects independently and simultaneously under deadline, including developing and managing workplans and budgets and overseeing consultant work products
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with and manage both contractors and internal teams
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills along with proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment

Preference will be given to those individuals who possess:

  • Experience working with a broad spectrum of both public and private sector stakeholders
  • A strong understanding of the technology development and demonstration process and experience identifying opportunities for technology innovation and market needs
  • Experience negotiating contracts and developing scopes of work with third party partners and/or consultants


The salary range is $71,685 - $120,156. Candidates will be considered based on qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is offered.
