New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) is a driving force in realizing this agenda. NYSERDA seeks an experienced and collaborative Staff Accountant to join its Finance team, working at the intersection of accounting, business analysis and financial analysis to improve business decision making to help advance a clean energy economy. This position interacts on a regular basis with NYSERDA’s management team, program staff, and other internal and external stakeholders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The Staff Accountant will play an integral role in assisting the Finance unit in its day to day, quarterly, and annual accounting activities; translating such into meaningful financial results and projections for management decision making. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Compile/analyze financial information and assist in the preparation and communication of monthly/quarterly financial reports to internal management and NYSERDA’s Board
  • Initiate and timely process journal entries associated with monthly/quarterly closing processes
  • Assist with the quarterly and annual financial statement compilation
  • Reconcile subsidiary ledgers and various general ledger accounts
  • Record and maintain fixed asset purchases and dispositions and depreciation expense within NYSERDA’s ERP system
  • Setup and maintain programmatic budgets in the enterprise information system
  • Maintain and improve efficiency and effectiveness, streamlining or enhancing processes while ensuring appropriate internal controls
  • Contribute to a culture of excellence grounded in people development, learning, problem solving, and teamwork
  • Establish positive working relationships across NYSERDA and its NY Green Bank and with key regulators and stakeholders including the Department of Public Service, NYS Division of Budget, external auditors, and investment advisors
  • Support NYSERDA-wide efforts to operate as an inclusive community, working together concertedly to deliver on ambitious climate goals while advancing our DEI plan and statewide environmental justice goals
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration or Finance with a minor in Accounting
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Solid analytical skills; ability to effectively evaluate information and data to make decisions
  • Strong work ethic and resolute integrity
  • Skill in managing multiple diverse activities simultaneously
  • Ability to perform with accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated successful collaboration across different teams and stakeholders


The salary range is $68,901 - $115,490. Candidates will be considered based on qualifications and experience.  An excellent benefits package is offered.
