Project Manager, Workforce Development and Training - Albany Office (#474)

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) seeks a creative, self-motivated and experienced individual to serve as a Project Manager on the Workforce Development and Training team. The Project Manager will have an integral role in developing, driving and implementing solutions and interventions to address the workforce training and skills gaps and barriers that are impacting clean energy employers in all sectors.

Primary Responsibilities

    • Work with the team, market participants and stakeholders to contribute to the development and implementation of insightful, creative solutions and test market-based approaches to addressing workforce skills gaps and overcoming market barriers; manage the implementation of a new workforce training investment strategy focusing on developing a talent pipeline for clean energy service providers
    • Identify new training needs and barriers across NYSERDA and develop supportive strategies in areas such as clean tech start-ups, smart buildings, advanced renewable heating and cooling technologies, and energy storage
    • Develop and implement, in collaboration with NYSERDA’s Marketing and Communication teams, a marketing plan to disseminate project and business case results within and across market sectors as appropriate
    • Design and manage 1-3 business case demonstrations to quantify the impacts of workforce training initiatives, evaluate success of the pilots and share results from successful demonstrations with stakeholders
    • Manage the workforce team’s program metrics reporting, market research to better understand what motivates employers and building managers related to workforce training, and program impact/evaluation initiatives
    • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Demonstrated problem-solving ability, resourcefulness, adaptability, and an instinct for pragmatic solutions with a proactive and collaborative style that works well in teams
    • An ability to drive big picture goals while maintaining a strong attention to detail
    • Skilled in managing multiple diverse activities simultaneously, delivering on commitments and operating with speed, accuracy and strong judgment
    • Strong analytical skills, ability to effectively evaluate information and data to make decisions 
    • Strong work ethic and resolute integrity
    • Strong writing, organizational and interpersonal skills

    Strong preference will be given to candidates with at least two years of experience in workforce training and development or relevant experience in the renewable or energy efficiency markets with demonstrated knowledge of the related market participants, stakeholders and workforce training and development initiatives. For example: renewable energy or energy efficiency project management or program design and implementation; technical contractor training.

    Educational Requirements

    • A bachelor’s degree
    • 7 years of directly related demonstrated experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree


    Candidates will be considered for Assistant Project Manager through Senior Project Manager based on qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is also offered.
