Project Manager, Commercial - Albany Office (#376)

NYSERDA seeks a creative, independent and self-motivated individual to join its Albany Commercial Market Development Team. The Commercial inter-disciplinary group whose primary goal is to scale clean energy investment by the private sector in buildings. The ideal candidate will have experience with commercial and institutional sectors and understand how they make capital investment decisions and operational improvements - as well as how other key stakeholders, such as vendors, suppliers, manufacturers, associations, etc. - impact these decisions. Exposure to investment decision making in the context of clean energy adoption is a plus.

Primary Responsibilities

    • Work with the NYSERDA Commercial Program Team in Albany and NYC
    • Manage and develop specific relationships and increase coordination with leading commercial key stakeholders, in order to accelerate investment in clean energy installations that increase net operating income and asset value
    • Develop an understanding of specific barriers to scaling clean energy investment and develop targeted, high impact strategies to address them
    • Interface with public sector, utility and market stakeholders
    • Work with market stakeholders to find the most cost-effective strategies to reduce energy usage and demand
    • Participate in a process to test, measure and adjust to maximize success
    • Develop new strategies to penetrate the commercial market and increase clean energy implementation
    • Present information on NYSERDA’s behalf at professional meetings, conferences and workshops
    • Participate in multi-functional teams to develop and direct new efforts
    • Make recommendations for improvements to NYSERDA’s strategies and business processes
    • Manage contractors and projects
    • Develop and report project status and metrics
    • Perform other responsibilities as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications

    • A bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, natural, or environmental science plus 4 years of relevant experience as described above or
    • A unrelated bachelor's degree plus 5 years of relevant experience as described above
    • A non-related master’s degree plus 4 years of relevant experience as described above
    • Energy-related technical knowledge of commercial and institutional sectors
      • Must be detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy in all duties
      • Ability to collect and document project requirements and successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously
      • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Knowledge of and/or experience in the energy efficiency, renewable energy and/or environmental industries
    • Strong project management skills and the ability to successfully multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
    • Superior oral and written communication and presentation skills along with a demonstrated ability to develop relationships with key stakeholder groups
    • Must be a self-starter and function well independently and in teams
    • Good computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
    • Proficiency in one (1) or more of the following skills:
      • Commercial/Institutional building energy studies, modeling and/or energy management
      • Commercial/Institutional building technologies, systems and/or processes
      • Energy efficiency building technologies, systems and/or processes
      • Commercial real estate asset/property management and/or market analysis
      • Client relationship management, consultative sales and/or market research and development

    In addition, since the responsibilities and duties of the members of the Commercial Team entail substantial interdisciplinary knowledge and cross-sector understanding, candidates from the following fields or who possess knowledge and/or experience in the following areas will be given preference:

    • Engineering
    • Facilities management
    • Power or grid management
    • Consultative sales, outreach and marketing to commercial, industrial and institutional customers
    • Market development
    • Supervising technical staff with increasing levels of responsibility
    • A master’s degree in engineering or the physical sciences
    • MBA
    • CEM or CEA Certification by the Association of Energy Engineers 


    Candidates will be considered for Assistant Project Manager through Senior Project Manager based on qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is also offered.
