Final Focused CMS Issued

On October 6, 2010, NYSERDA issued the Final Focused Corrective Measures Study for the State-Licensed Disposal Area at the Western New York Nuclear Service Center West Valley, New York [PDF|6.15 MB]. The Final Focused CMS analyzed the potential for releases and options for containment of hazardous constituents from the SDA. The recommended CMS alternative is consistent with the Phased Decisionmaking Alternative selected by NYSERDA and the U.S. Department of Energy during the recently completed Environmental Impact Statement process for Decommissioning and/or Long-Term Stewardship of the West Valley Demonstration Project and the Western New York Nuclear Service Center.

NYSERDA’s responses to the public comments on the Draft Focused CMS are addressed in the Responsiveness Summary (Section 6) of the document. For information regarding the Final Focused CMS, contact:

Recently, DOE accelerated WVDP clean-up activities through the acquisition of additional funding provided under the American Recovery and Reinvestment (ARRA) Act. West Valley received nearly $74 million over three years (federal fiscal years 2009-2011) under the ARRA Act.
