Database of State Incentives for Renewable Energy (DSIRE)
This website contains summary information on programs that fosters renewable energy use such as grant and loan programs and corporate tax and income tax incentives. DSIRE also maintains the database of various regulatory policies for renewable energy including net metering, green pricing state, and construction practices, and has a special component for schools where teachers and students can enter information about their school's project.
Institute for Sustainable Power (ISP)
The Institute for Sustainable Power is a non-national, non-profit international organization. The goals of ISP include improving the quality of renewable and sustainable energy projects, and improving the quality of workforce development for sustainable, local jobs. The organization offers accreditation and training programs for the design, installation and maintenance of renewable energy, energy efficiency, and distributed generation systems. The North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners organization is a volunteer board of renewable energy stakeholder representatives whose mission is to support and work with the renewable energy and energy efficiency industries, professionals, and stakeholders to develop and implement quality credentialing and certification programs for practitioners. NYS Standardized Interconnection Requirements
The New York State Public Service Commission website includes information on NYS Standardized Interconnection Requirements. This website contains a list of documents, created by the New York State Public Service Commission, outlining the specifications that must be met by energy systems to be connected to the power grid. This website is useful because specifications differ depending on the size of the energy system to be installed.
Net Metering Information
This U.S. Department of Energy website provides information on "Net Metering," a special marketing and billing agreement between utilities and consumers that allows for the connection of a small energy system to the power grid. This is a national site but contains a link that allows for the search of individual programs in any particular area.
Operating Your System Off-Grid
For many people, powering their homes or small businesses with a small renewable energy system not connected to the electricity
grid is the most practical.
This U.S. Department of Energy fact sheet provides information about doing just that and includes information on equipment needed as well as the various codes necessary for system compliance.

New York Wind Map
This site contains an updated map of New York's wind speeds, developed under NYSERDA funding. This map has a resolution of 200 meters. Tools such as: zoom in, zoom out, pan, wind resource report, and more are located above the map. Various overlays can be selected as well.

American Wind Energy Association is a national trade organization that promotes the use of wind energy. The site includes contact information for developers, consultants, equipment suppliers, and other members. It also provides details on large and small wind technology, policy initiatives, locations of installed wind projects, and links to other information.
AWS Truepower
AWS Truepower is an organization made up of meteorologists, engineers, and environmental specialists, offering a full range of technical services from feasibility studies to wind plant design. This site provides good information on weather and atmospheric conditions of an area for use in the development of an alternative energy system for a particular location. Also included on the site are wind maps and meteorology maps for specific areas of the world (including New York).

Windpowering America is a U.S. Department of Energy program with specific focus on the use of wind power generation as a source of income for American farmers, Native Americans, and rural landowners. This site provides helpful links to various state agencies that deal with renewable energy. It also gives information as to what is needed to start one’s own wind farm.

This Public Service Commission Order, Effective September 26, 2005, modifies and approves tariffs filed to establish standards for net metering and interconnection of residential and farm wind electric generating equipment.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, Division of Mineral Resources
This division is responsible for the regulation of all oil, natural gas, gas storage and mining activities in the state. The website includes data on existing wells, permits and spacing orders.
New York State Museum, Empire State oil and Gas Information System (ESOGIS)
