Gil Richardson has BPI certifications as a Building Analyst and a Multi-Family Building Analyst, and is a certified HERS Rater and consultant. He has audited more than 250 buildings since 2009. He and his wife built their super-insulated, off-grid home in 2001. Powered by photovoltaics and heated by passive solar and gasifed cordwood, the house uses approximately 87% less electricity than the US norm and only 4 cords of wood for heat and domestic hot water. For this project, Gil is conducting site visits at multifamily properties involved in the study.

Alex Lovallo has two Bachelor of Science degrees – in Mechanical Engineering and in Natural Resources from Cornell University. Alex is adept in the retrofit energy analysis of multifamily buildings, and has performed multifamily energy audits on many units, including high-rise, mid-rise and low-rise apartment buildings, and scattered site townhouse complexes. He draws from his rich experience in building science and energy modeling to support and enhance the trainings he delivers. Before joining PSD, Alex worked for Cannon Design, where he designed and documented HVAC systems for multifamily buildings, office spaces, medical facilities, and public education buildings.

Since 2007 he has conducted single and multifamily building audits, design reviews on multi-million dollar housing projects, implemented new product specs, utility analyses, and provided HERS Rating services. He currently serves as Building Performance Manager for the Housing Visions sister organization, Dynamic Building Solutions.

The last 4 years have been spent training/ proctoring and building “Building Science Training Laboratories” for building science educational training and testing purposes. Howard is a consultant in the field of energy conservation and high performance buildings. He specializes in the use of Infrared Thermal Imaging for building diagnostics. He conducts comprehensive home assessments and performs energy audits for both residential and commercial clients to develop insulation and energy conservation strategies. He is an Adjunct Professor at Hudson Valley Community College’s Center for Energy Efficiency and Building Science and is the Technical Director for United Infrared’s EnergyScanIR® division. Todd Blackley has more than 35 years of experience in home construction, building energy audits, building energy modeling and building science training. He built his first home in 1978 and went on to build over 100 more custom homes. After building the first Energy Star Rated home in Western New York he left the construction arena to become a certified HERS Rater and has rated over 800 homes to date. Along the way he designed and created one of the industry’s first Home Energy Scoring tools in 2001, going web-based with it in 2005. He is a Green Verifier in the NAHB Green Program and a Green Technician in the NYSERDA Green Residential Building Program. He teaches “Green Building for Building Professionals” and “Business Management for Building Professionals” for the NAHB and “Advanced Air Sealing Diagnostics for the BPCA.” He strives to instill integrity in many of the new energy conservation and environmental consciousness programs and to that end has become a Registered Assessor with the Interstate Renewal Energy Council (IREC) working on the Energy Efficiency Accreditation Programs.
