PON 2722 Toward Zero Net Energy Wastewater Treatment
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) supports improving the performance, sustainability, and resiliency of municipal water and wastewater treatment infrastructure. To this end, the goal of PON 2722 is three-fold: to support Zero-Net Energy wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) - plants where energy demand is balanced with energy generated from on-site renewable sources; to support planning and preparation for the potential impacts of climate change at both WWTPs and water treatment plants; and to convey project results to a broad New York State (NYS) audience. This PON invites proposals for Demonstration Projects associated with innovative technologies; and Feasibility Studies that: i) evaluate WWTP energy efficiency opportunities, ii) evaluate energy efficient process improvement alternatives, and iii) demonstrate use of the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Climate Resilience Evaluation and Awareness Tool (CREAT) or similar tools.
